Joao’s Place is a secret apartment speakeasy, a refuge for guests from all parts of the world to join a colourful evening of music, intriguing conversation, occasional debauchery, and exceptional cocktails inside an intimate studio inspired by Joao’s Liberdade neighbourhood in São Paulo, Brazil.
Recognised by Conde Nast Traveller UK among the Best Bars in Edinburgh 2025 and Best Rooftop Bars in Edinburgh, and awarded Cocktail Bar of the Year 2025 by the Scottish Hotel of the Year Awards, Joao’s Place has earned its reputation as one of the city’s most unique and spirited destinations.

Step into our secret apartment speakeasy, a refuge for guests from all parts of the world to join a colorful afternoon of music and incredible cocktails inside the intimate studio inspired by his Liberdade neighborhood of São Paulo Brazil.
The drinks are a mix of classics celebrating Brazil and Joao’s community in Liberdade (São Paulo’s largest Japanese community outside of Japan) and a Bossa Nova selection inspired by the huge wave of international artists who swarmed to Brazil in the 1980s.
